Finding a Community of Writers
I find that starting out as a writer, it is sometimes hard to find something to get excited about in regards to my “writing career”.
You’ve finished your first manuscript. You’ve revised it. You’ve revised it again. You’ve dug your way through publishing guide books and submission guidelines. You’ve sent out queries letters, and received rejection letters in return. If you are like me, you are trying to get your writing career off of the ground in the midst of working a nine to five job and taking care of a family.
You try to find time to work on your next book as you continue to send your query letter out once again.
Then one day, someone you have said hello to in passing in the hallway hundreds of times at work stops you in the hall to tell you that they too write Young Adult fiction. What are the chances of finding another writer of the same genre in the same building, on the same floor at work? Finally! Something to be excited about. We’ve decided to start up a writer’s group to help each with critiques and motivation. We are hoping to find more people around town that will join us but for now we have found what every writer needs, a community of writers. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited.
